World Book Day 4th March - Books For Children!

World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.

One Hundred Steps by Captain Sir Tom Moore (Age 4+)
This is an inspirational picture book, published in support of the creation of the Captain Tom Foundation, which tells the incredible story of the man who walked 100 laps of his garden and captured the heart of a nation. Fully illustrated for younger readers, and following the key moments from Captain Sir Tom's incredible life, the book shows what is possible when we come together and never, ever give up.

Pizazz by Sophy Henn ( Age 7+)
My name is Pizazz and I'm a superhero. You probably think that's really awesome, and while it can be, it's also really annoying. I guess it was sort of going OK (I say, 'sort of' - I still have to wear a silly cape and save the world all the time) until this new kid showed up, and started wowing everyone with their super powers. Yep, super powers - just what this town needs, another super. Who just happens to have the coolest name ever: Jett. And now, because of Serena and her gang of Populars, I have to compete against Jett in an almighty and ultimate super-off. But it's fine. I mean, even if I lose, there's space for two supers in this school, isn't there?!

The Runaway Girls by Jacqueline Wilson (Age 9+)
Victorian London, 1851. Queen Victoria is on the throne and the Great Exhibition is about to open! Lucy Locket lives with her father, the New Mother and the New Baby. They sent away her beloved Nurse and replaced her with a horrid governess. Lucy desperately wants someone to be kind to her, and to have some fun - there's very little of that in her house. Kitty Fisher is a street performer who earns tin for her supper by tumbling. She has always lived on the street and on her wits, with only the kind Gaffer to help her. But now Gaffer is gone, and Kitty is all alone. When Lucy runs away from home, Kitty shows Lucy how to survive. Lucy learns quickly and shows Kitty her own skills - befriending families to get free meals and singing beautiful melodies for the crowds. But the streets of Victorian London are dangerous and soon thegirls find themselves under threat from thieves - and even worse.

Rowley Jefferson's awesome friendly spooky stories By Jeff Kinney (Age 9+)
Grab a flashlight, crawl under the covers, and dive into the twisted, unexpectedly hilarious world of Rowley Jefferson's imagination. You'll meet zombies, vampires, ghosts, and much more in these comically terrifying tales.

Skulduggery Pleasant: Dead or Alive by Derek Landy (Age 11+)

In a matter of days, the world will change. Billions of lives will be wiped away in a final, desperate search for the Child of the Faceless Ones - she who is destined to bring about the return of humankind's ancient overlords. To prevent this, Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain have one last - terrible - option: the assassination of Damocles Creed.
