HOME Slough Art Competition

There’s still time to take part in the ‘Slough Young Artists: Show & Competition!' To take part and be in with a chance of winning, all entrants need to do is use their imagination to create a piece of hand-crafted artwork, take a picture of their creation and submit it explaining why they made this piece of art!

Submissions are open for young people living in Slough aged 5 to 18. Prizes will be awarded to the top participant in each age range (5 to 8 years old, 9 to 12 years old and 13 to 18 years old). The artworks will be judged by a panel of representatives, drawn from the local community, based on artistic talent, creativity and originality. All prize winners will receive vouchers for art materials, plus three art workshops each led by professional and established visual artist Marinella Caldarus The competition is aimed at encouraging children and young people to be creative. An exhibition of participant’s original artworks will be held at HOME on the high street later in the year. All participants, including the winners, will have their work professionally published by HOME Slough in a companion booklet.

Competition details


  • This competition is open to all children and young adults aged 5–18 living in Slough

  • The competition opens from 1 April 2020 and closes on 31 May 2020

  • Entrants can use any art medium such as painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media etc. Paintings may be completed in two sizes: A4 or A3. A4 size is 210 × 297 millimetres. A3 size is 297 x 420 millimetres.

  • To take part in the competition please send three photos of your artwork, under cover of the following title: Slough Young Artists Show & Competition, to info@homeslough.org.uk by the deadline 31st May 2020

  • There is a limit of 3 artworks/photos per entrant (one picture for each artwork).

  • The deadline for entries is 6pm on 31st May.

  • Judging will take place in June. Panel members will be announced shortly. Submissions will not only be judged on artistic talent, but also on creativity and originality.


Once the panel have made their decisions, HOME Slough will organise the photographs and publish a companion guide to the competition with each of the winners receiving full page recognition. Also:

  • A gala reception to celebrate the children and young people’s artwork and announce the winners will be held at HOME on the High Street, to which all entrants will be invited.

  • Dates and further details about the exhibition will be confirmed at a later stage and all participants will be informed about this via email.

  • Please keep your original A3 and A4 paintings safe at home as we may ask you to bring them to be exhibited at HOME on the High Street later in the year.


Summer Reading Challenge

The annual event for children aged 4 and up is running from 13th June to September in Slough to keep children reading over the summer. With a theme of “Let’s Get Silly”, the official website will host virtual events with celebrities and authors, games, quizzes, and downloadable activities, all to encourage children to read. Look out for our online activities we will be providing on our Slough Library social media page.

James and the Giant Peach

Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi has teamed up with the Roald Dahl Story Company to perform Dahl’s classic book in 10 installments to raise money for healthworkers.

Letters from Lockdown

The Children’s Bookshow has launched a project where authors and illustrators are sending handwritten letters to children in lockdown to inspire them to write their own.

Axel Scheffler’s coronovirus picture book

The Gruffalo illustrator lays out the coronavirus and the measures being taken to control it in a way that is comprehensible to children.


Please supervise your child’s use of the internet and encourage plenty of breaks away from the screen
