Hi Everyone! During the lockdown I will be giving you reading ideas in the form of online magazines through RB Digital and Pressreader free for you to read through our website. Staggeringly Pressreader gives you access to over 7000 magazines and RB Digital gives access to 145 magazines! From Food and Drink to Business and Current Affairs to Crafts and Hobbies, there is definitely something for everyone!
Today I am reviewing The Week Junior available on both platforms. A magazine suitable for 8-14 year olds. Parental guidance is advised for children reading magazines on RB Digital and Pressreader as not all content is suitable for that age range.
This issue covers current affairs, explaining the coronavirus lockdown to an audience who have been greatly affected, giving tips on how to study at home and how to get creative indoors, colouring in the rainbow picture on the front page and displaying it in your front window. There are interesting stories from around the world to a feature on Autism and inspiring Autistic individuals including Greta Thunberg.
In the entertainment features section there is a great article on Superheroes on screen, can you believe The Mark of Zorro is considered to be the first superhero film and was released in 1920?!!
There are lots of nature, science and sport articles, covering a wide range of interests! On the 'Do something' page children are encouraged to make a family breakfast with one child saying "It was fun cooking for others".
The magazines book club features reader’s recommendations, this week it’s Jacqueline Wilson’s ‘My Mum Tracey Beaker’. There is also a quiz of the week and puzzles page to keep those busy brains active!
I would recommend reading The Week Junior as it’s filled with fascinating stories and information. Written in a way to encourage young minds to get exploring and understand the world around them. Also you can read the informative back copies and do the quizzes and puzzles!
