Welcome to How It Works, the magazine that explains everything you never knew you wanted to know about the world we live in. Loaded with fully illustrated guides and expert knowledge, and with sections dedicated to science, technology, transportation, space, history and the environment, no subject is too big or small for How It Works to explain. It’s for ages 8+ but an adult would equally find it informative and appealing.

I have to admit I was intrigued by the offer on the front page of 3 FREE E-books for every reader. You simply have to go to page 35, complete a short questionnaire on Survey Monkey, giving you access to download the three free E-books! Those are Human Body: Myths Busted, World of Tomorrow and Incredible History. I have downloaded and flicked through each one and they are impressive non-fiction E-books with lots of illustrations and go into just the right amount of detail to keep you engaged. They are real little gems which can keep young inquisitive minds busy during lockdown. I’d strongly recommend downloading each one and bookmarking for easy reference.

This month’s issue explores how endurance runners push their bodies to the limit, changing their physiology forever. It probes how organs cope, the biomechanics of endurance running, how marathon training accesses the bodies fat store and ‘hitting the wall’.

Also included are the usual features including Book Reviews, Brain Gym- giving your brain a puzzle workout, Inbox-letters page, Brain Dump- ask an expert and the practical project this week is: How to Make a Pasta Rocket.

I would definitely recommend creating a RB Digital Account through the Slough Libraries website and reading How It Works. Don’t forget you have the added bonus of reading back issues!
