You may have noticed that for the last few days we have been highlighting in different ways the people who were awarded Slough Libraries and Culture's Black History Month small grants.
We highlighted in the last few days:
Christina from VIBE is having her first drama workshop for families on Wed 11 November 6.30pm (Book Black Butterfly Family Drama session)
Theophina began her blog series about her research into the life of Lydia Simmons, local Slough hero (Lydia Simmons Part 1)
To add a little insight into those who received our grants. We had 22 applicants who were all reviewed and assessed by a panel of people representing a range of Black communities of Slough. One of the panel's requests was that three of the applications work together on a joint artistic project.
Desree - a talented spoken word artist, writer and facilitator based in both London and Slough.
Soulful Sistas - a group of 4 semi professional singers from slough singing soul, RNB and gospel music.
Theo - a videographer and photographer. Some of his current projects include #Black4Slough, Slough Community Podcast and the After You Podcast.
When the three were asked to work together they enthusiastically agreed.
The final video will combine music and spoken word. Soulful Sistas' original proposed song "Aint gonna let nobody" will be the musical element. A song was written by civil rights activists who were fighting for their rights in the 1920s. And there will also be
new creative material written by Desree around the theme of Black joy and Black love.
The videography will include old pictures of the Black Communities of Slough over the last 50 years. We have a little teaser for you before the big release!
