CARIBBEAN STORIES: Celebrating the windrush generation and beyond


Through a Different Lens are looking for poems inspired by the theme ‘What my Windrush experience and heritage means to me’


Through a Different Lens Launched on 22nd June, their Caribbean Stories poetry competition with a free workshop to help you to craft your entry.

They want to encourage storytelling from the Windrush generation and their descendants to document the lived experience of the Caribbean community. This opportunity will be followed by some filmmaking workshops in the autumn - stay connected with Through a Different Lens for news and updates. The poetry workshop and competition seeks to support and encourage the community and they have an experienced panel of judges from the creative community, all from the diaspora.


Open to anyone ages 18 and over from the Berkshire Caribbean community.

DESREE

Desree is a spoken word artist, writer and facilitator. Artist in Residence for

EMPOWORD, Desree explores intersectionality, justice and social commentary.

Producer for both Word Up and Word Of Mouth, finalist in 2018’s Hammer &

Tongue national final and TEDx speaker, she has featured at events around the

UK and internationally, including Glastonbury Festival 2019, Royal Albert Hall

and Bowery Poetry New York.

Desree’s debut collection is called ‘I Find My Strength in Simple Things’.

TERRY ADAMS

Terry Adams, Relationship Manager, Diversity, Arts Council. A background in

Arts, Culture and the Creative industries. His experience and skills are built on

a background in research, business development and marketing. This includes

strategic development for national TV & Radio broadcasters, news media

outlets, public services, local and central government. Current role in

supporting established and emerging arts and cultural organisations, artists

and creative practitioners grow, develop their practice and achieve creative

and career/business objectives.


LENNOX CARTY

Lennox is a trained Youth and Community Worker who leads creative writing

and cultural awareness projects around the country. He has been involved in

television performances with ITV and Sky Community Channel and has also

performed on radio. Additionally, he runs Creative Writing Workshops in

schools, universities, youth centres and prisons. He has worked in Wandsworth

Prison, Whitemoor Prison, Aylesbury Young Offenders, Grendon Underwood

Prison and Rochester Prison running Creative Writing Workshops, discussion

and performance.

JOCELYN CHANDLER

Jocelyn is an event organiser, film maker and producer. She is passionate

about inspiring, supporting and empowering businesses and creative projects

to grow their reach. Through A Different Lens marketing and film making

support produces short films and supports & curates film events to explore

the representation of the African Caribbean community.
