Book Review: The Things You Can Only See When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim

The Things You Can Only See When You Slow Down is a series of inspiring essays by Zen Buddhist teacher and author Haemin Sunim, about the importance of slowing down in our fast-paced world.

It is a soothing, simple, yet full of wisdom philosophy of promoting peace and tranquillity into our lives. It is divided in eight distinctive chapters – rest, mindfulness, passion, relationships, love, life, future and spirituality.

There are powerful truths in this book, which we all know deep down inside, but it is so easy to lose sight of them when we are too wound up and busy.

They include not dwelling on negative thoughts, Forgiving others, to treat ourselves with compassion. Choose happiness, not success. Always take time to listen to yourself as well as others.

The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down is a very inspiring read, filled with poignant advice which no doubt calms us down. I would advise to read it little by little so that we can savour it.
